Why Does My Cat Keep Bringing Me "Gifts"?

Let’s be real—waking up to a half-dead mouse or a drool-soaked toy on your pillow isn’t exactly the best way to start the day. But before you freak out on your furry friend, you should know that this bizarre habit is actually a massive compliment.

Cats are born hunters. Even the fluffiest, most pampered indoor kitty has a wild predator buried deep inside. When they drop a “catch” at your feet, they’re acting on a few deep-rooted instincts.

First off, they probably think you’re a terrible hunter. In the wild, momma cats bring dead or injured prey back to their kittens to teach them how to survive. Since your cat has never actually seen you catch a bird or a mouse, they naturally assume you’re starving and need a little tutoring. To them, you’re just a giant, clumsy kitten who can’t fend for itself.

It’s also about family. Cats only share their prized possessions with the people they truly love and trust. By dropping their hard-earned bounty right in front of you, they’re essentially telling you that you’re an important part of their pack.

So, the next time your cat brings you a gross little “present,” try your best not to scream. Just say thank you, quietly dispose of it when they aren’t looking, and give them a nice scratch behind the ears. It’s just their weird little way of showing they care.
